Nintendo Switch System Update 6.0 Detailed, Out Next Week
It will prepare systems for Nintendo’s online service
Nintendo announced today that the next system update for Nintendo Switch will launch next week. Most fully numbered updates are important, and system update 6.0 is no different. This key firmware upgrade will lay the groundwork for the Nintendo Switch Online service to be implemented.
Nintendo Switch system update 6.0 is expected to go live at 8pm Eastern Time on next Tuesday, September 18. This will cause the Nintendo eShop to undergo maintenance as well, and after the update is released players won’t be able to access the online store unless they have the latest update installed. The maintenance is expected to last three hours, so players should be able to purchase a Nintendo Switch Online subscription after it ends.
Full details on what the Nintendo Switch Online service will include are expected to be announced in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation that takes place at 6pm Eastern Time. Currently, it’s known that there will be 20 classic NES title available to play (complete with added online play) for subscribers, cloud saving will be introduced for select titles, and it will give online access for all multiplayer titles (such as Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe).
Nintendo Switch system update 6.0 will release on September 18.
