Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Lands on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

The epic RPG adaptation set in the Witcher universe finally gets its console release

In between developing the long awaited Cyberpunk 2077 and maintaining their card game, Gwent, CD Projekt Red have come out with a unique title in the Witcher series – Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. The game is loaded with content from the Witcher universe, delivered in a more storytelling approach, with no elements of direct action. Released earlier this year on PC, the isometric RPG game made it to Xbox One and PS4 on December 4.

See the launch trailer below:

Fans will be delighted to learn that the combat system in Thronebreaker is comprised entirely of Gwent, the Witcher card game. You traverse the world in isometric 3D, then face off against your opponents in a Gwent match, symbolizing the combat.

Stylistically, the game borrows and adapts a lot of assets from The Witcher 3, with familiar arts, fonts and tunes across the board. While the titular Geralt of Rivia is not a playable character,, you’d be playing as Meve, queen of Lyria and Rivia.

The game is now officially out on PS4, Xbox One and PC, at $29.99, and reviews have already come in positive across the board. The game boasts an 85/100 on MetaCritic, with a user score of 7.7, as well as very positive reviews on Steam.
