Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Kephallonia Islands
Detailed walkthrough of side quests in the starting region of the ancient Greek adventures from Ubisoft
Since Assassin’s Creed Odyssey offers recommendations on the level of character development for each specific task, you will always be able to find out whether your character is qualified for the next mission. The ideal situation is when the parameters of the quest and the parameters of your protagonist are fully consistent with each other.
However, no one will prevent the player from taking a mission that is two or even three ranks higher than his character. The problem is that in this case
Alexios/Kassandra hits will deal minimal damage to enemies. So, unless you want to spend the whole day trying to defeat your opponents, take on side quests to increase the level of your character.
In this material, we will analyze secondary tasks that could be found in the starting region of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the Kephallonia Islands. The quests are listed in the order in which you will see them in the game itself.

Lumbering Along is probably the first side quest that you will get in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as it naturally follows the main quest Debt Collector. The bladesmith Drucilla is waiting for you at the base of the temple of Zeus with a familiar errand – to get rid of bandits that interfere with wood supply.
Before you go on a mission, ask the woman about the location of the bandits. Drucilla does not know where to find them but will advise you to start by checking the nearest sawmill. When she raises doubts that you will be able to solve the problems with bandits, calm her down or clamp her – there is no difference.
Go to the quest marker in the north – don’t forget, that the hero has a horse that can be called up by pressing a single button. Having arrived at the site, inspect the three clues at the crime scene – the traces on the road, a broken carriage and the soldier’s body to the left of the track.
Upon results of his small investigation, Alexios/Kassandra will come to several conclusions: murder and theft are the work of bandits who moved to the west but had no time to go far from the site. Use Icarus (the eagle) to detect the bandit camp (and its ‘’inhabitants’’) at the coast to the southwest of the sawmill.
There are relatively few enemies (no more than ten) in the wood warehouse which was chosen by the bandits, but stealth is still the preferred option. The bow that was obtained at the end of the storyline quest ‘’Debt Collector’’ is useless here as the weapon is still too weak.
Elite fighters like this one are stronger and more endurable than ordinary ones.First, try to eliminate the lone bandits – the bandit leader, for example, loves to look at the sea, standing with his back to the potential danger, at the pier in the north of the region. Various commanders in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey pose a serious threat in a battle, so use the stealth method to get rid of them.
Another elite warrior is walking back and forth on the beach together with his dog. In the absence of other options, eliminate this warrior by suddenly attacking him and them finish off the dog – if there’ll be no other enemies in the immediate vicinity of the fight, no one will hear you.
It’s easy to kill other bandits by sneaking behind their backs or luring them into the tall grass. The electronic bandits are not distinguished by artificial intelligence, so, time after time, they will go to the whistle of the protagonist in the same bush where they will be eliminated by the hero.
When all enemies are dead, take the Kephallonian wood and mercenary’s gloves from the chest in one of the tents, and inspect the small box on the quay to complete the main part of the task and collect both optional treasures in the area.
Go back to Drucilla and show her the proof of work to get the well-deserved reward.
In the Footsteps of Gods
- Given by: a priestess of Zeus temple.
- Reward: experience points + items depending on your choice.
Priestess is praying on the porch of the Zeus temple next to Sami. She asks Kephall – a mythical hero in whose honor Kephallonia was named – to send her a defender. Alexios/Kassandra comes in handy to answer the woman’s prayers and offer his help.
The priestess asks you to find the legendary spear of Kephall, which, according to legends, is hidden in the caves under the island. Fortunately, the entrance to one of these caves – the area will be called Melissani Cave – is located to the north of the Zeus temple. Use Icarus to inspect the crevice from above.
Having arrived at the site, jump down from the edge of the ledge. Dive under the water to find an ostracon and one of the two optional treasures in this location. After this, return to the surface – you are interested in a ‘’door’’ in one of the cave walls.
Then, go down under water – there, the cave won’t seem so dark – and swim along the only available path until you can emerge. Move forward along the corridor – sooner or later, you will hear a conversation between two bandits who guard the chest with the above-mentioned spear.
Squat down and, having sneaked closer to the thugs, hide in the tall grass. When they separate, you’ll be able to silently kill both from the back. The alternative option is to lure one with a whistle and finish him off in the bush, and then just deal with the remaining thug.
Take Kephall’s spear from the chest and climb up the southern wall. Be careful: there are enemies left in the cave – a soldier will stand at the top. If you do not want to attract unnecessary attention, hide in the grass on the right and make a sudden attack. Another unsuspecting enemy is located behind a low passage to the south.
Having dealt with him, hurry to the exit from the cave which will lead you straight to the temple of Zeus. Talk to the priestess and decided what you want to do with the spear – keep it (tell her that you could not find the spear), give it away for free or demand a reward for the spear. In the latter case, you will receive a couple hundred drachmas.

An upset citizen sits at the entrance to the Drogarati Cave (to the east of the Marcos vineyard) – he thinks that he has angered the gods that live inside. The man will ask Alexios/Kassandra to confirm or refute his assumptions. Go into the darkness once you have agreed to help him.
You can get a torch on the way to the statue of Hermes if you do not want to wander in the dark. Having reached the statue, look at one of the gifts on the floor, then go to a cavity in the wall behind the bronze sculpture – it leads to the part of the cave that is hidden from prying eyes.
Ahead of you, you’ll meet two robbers who were stealing gifts from the citizens. Deal with the first one by jumping from a small ledge behind the bandit. You can kill the second one from the tall grass. Next, the road is divided: the right corridor leads to a wide room with several enemies, and we’ll return to the left one a little later.
Lure one of the bandits with a whistle and wait for him to come closer. Perform a sudden attack and then sneak from the back of the second thug. The third villain stands in an extremely narrow and hard-to-reach place, so it will be difficult to get close to him undetected.
Therefore, climb up the stairs on the left to get on the top of the wooden scaffold. Here, you’ll find a chest with the only optional treasure in this location. Then, kill the above-mentioned criminal in a jump from above. Only the gang leader remains alive at this time. Next, you’ll face him.
Hide in the tall grass and sneak up to the enemy (or lure him) and then perform a sudden attack. The task is completed – you can return to the citizen near the cave entrance to get your reward. Be sure to use the same way you came here, or you won’t get another side quest.
- Given by: a nameless woman in Drogarati Cave.
- Reward: experience points.
If you return the same way you entered the cave in the quest Hungry Gods, you’ll be able to overhear a prayer of a nameless woman to Hermes. She has four children, she sells baskets, but her cart broke down, leaving the owner without means of livelihood.
If you wish, you can respond to the prayers of the woman with the voice of “Hermes”, telling her to go home and promising that she’ll be happy soon. When the grateful woman goes away, come out of your cover and head to the house of the unfortunate woman that is located in Sami – it will be marked on your map.
Having arrived at the site, inspect the above-mentioned baskets and a broken cart. After this, put the goods that you have taken from robbers to a noticeable place. With this, the mission Merciful Gods will come to an end, and you will receive your well-deserved reward in the form of experience points.
The Blood Fever

After she is rescued from the hands of the kidnappers, Phoibe (see the storyline quest Debt Collector) will move to the territory of Markos’ vineyard. Talk to the girl to find out about her worries – a terrible epidemic broke out in a nearby village, and Phoebe’s friend is among those who are infected.
Having promised Phoibe to deal with the problem, go to Kausos, a small town on the western side of the island. Once you have arrived at the site, you’ll find that everything was burned down as the authorities tried to cope with the fever. A couple of soldiers provide care to the remaining sick people.
Talk to the priest who is trying to persuade the citizens – according to him, there is no hope to defeat the illness, and Kephallonia could only be saved if these innocent people die. You have a right to disagree with him, but this decision will lead to a fight with three opponents at once.
Having won in the fight – try to keep all enemies in sight and block their attacks – you will earn the gratitude of the rescued citizens and Phoebe, as well as a chance to get some money. If you wish, you can refuse the monetary reward since the protagonist has already demonstrated the wonders of compassion.
Your act of mercy will not go unnoticed by the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. After a few hours of gameplay, the hero will be notified that because of his actions, Kephallonia is suffering from an epidemic that began in Kausos. Good deeds don’t always lead to good consequences.
If you decide to leave the infected inhabitants to their fate – they will not survive the meeting with the blades of priest’s assistants but will also be unable to spread the disease – Alexios/Kassandra will have to explain the decision to Phoibe. Whatever options you choose in the dialogue with her, the girl will take this life lesson like an adult.
The Fight with Talos
- Given by: obtained automatically during the storyline mission Debt Collector.
- Reward: experience points and fifth-level breastplate.
You learn that the hero is hunted by a mercenary named Talos in the middle of the storyline quest Debt Collector. It’s impossible to pay off the contract or kill the employer in this case, so you must solve the problem using an old school method – by fighting.
It is strongly recommended to try eliminating Talos only after you have reached the fourth level of character development – otherwise, the enemy may seem too strong and resilient – but no later than the storyline mission Penelope’s Shroud. If you don’t deal with Talos, your potential killer may appear at an inopportune time.
- Note: Talos may be waiting for you in any bush he likes.
Unlike the goals of most side quests, Talos will be visible from afar – just look for a red helmet on the map and go to meet him. We cannot predict where exactly you will meet the mercenary – he travels around Kephallonia at his own pace - but try to choose a spacious arena for the battle.
Start the fight with a surprise attack – most often, Talos can be found just walking around the island – which will deprive the enemy of a significant part of his health. You’ll have to beat the remaining part of his health out of him by yourself. Block his attacks and don’t forget to dodge ‘’red’’, nonblocking attacks of the enemy, as you have no way to heal yourself during this battle.
- Note: Do not forget to bounce away from Talos’ arrows to avoid finishing the battle before the mercenary.
There are also non-standard ways to kill Talos – in our case, the fate brought the hero to the mercenary on the mountainside near Markos’ vineyard. In absence of better tactics, Alexios had to put almost four dozen arrows in Talos – if you stand at a distance from the enemy, he will uncover his bow sooner or later and will not even think about dodging your arrows.
A Small Odyssey
- Given by: Odessa.
- Reward: experience points and money.
During the quest Penelope’s Shroud, you can notice the icon of a side quest in the territory of former Odyssey’s fortress. In place of the indicator, you’ll find a cage with a woman locked inside which is protected by several guards. Before you can begin the side quest, you need to release the woman.
If possible, remove the guards stealthily. Keep in mind that you can always run to the nearby forest to fight with the guards who have discovered Alexios/Kassandra to avoid alarming guards in the far parts of the fortress.
The freed prisoner will first rush out of her dungeon – follow her but be careful: wolves can attack the heroes on the way to a place that is far from bandit eyes. Get rid of these animals and talk to the woman to learn who she is and what she is doing on this island.
You will find out that the woman’s name is Odessa and that she (according to her own words) is a descendant of Odyssey himself, and that she visited his former residence for tourist reasons. Run after the traveler to the heart of Odyssey’s palace but stay alert: the surviving bandits may find you and enter the battle.
Having reached her target, Odessa will be disappointed with what she saw and will ask the protagonist to accompany her on the way to the ship. There’ll be no enemies on the way to the ship, so you can concentrate on escorting your employer. Having arrived at the site, the heroes will enter into a conversation.
We cannot say that the available dialogue options will greatly influence further development of your relationship, but if you wish, you can give a compliment to Odessa (the option is marked with a heart) – a replica ‘’It’s cute that you’re determined’’ – or make her angry with the phrase ‘’You’ll get there one day’’.
Shark the Vagrant
- Given by: vegetables merchants.
- Reward: experience points and money.
A couple of vegetable merchants is located in the north-west of Kephallonia. They barely make ends meet and dream of leaving the island. Unfortunately, financial problems prohibit them from doing this, so the couple found a creative solution. They want to get an expensive necklace, which is stored in the sunken temple of Zeus in the south.
The only obstacle on merchants’ way is the shark (or rather several sharks) who guards the jewel. Your task is to kill the sharks and get the treasure. It sounds easier than it actually is: for this task, the main character must have at least fourth or fifth level.
Ride to the south of the island. For navigation, use the columns that stand out of the water and other stone structures. Having arrived at the site, release Icarus and mark the necklace location on the map. Theoretically, you do not need to kill the sharks to complete the task, but in practice you will most likely come across them.
Three extremely dangerous fishes swim in the area of your target. If you have a weapon with a significant range of action (for example, a spear), it will come in handy in this situation. When the shark comes close, hit it (the bow will not work in this case) – it is not possible to dodge in water.
If necessary, swim back to the surface and climb on the columns that stand out of the water. By the way, it’s a good position to effectively kill the aggressive inhabitants of the seabed. Do not forget to create more arrows so that you have a sufficient ammo for all ‘’enemies’’ and choose a comfortable position.
If you want to thrill yourself, you can try to bypass the sharks and get to the chest with the necklace. This venture has a significant risk of failure, so we advise you to do a manual save or a quick save before you try it. Take the jewelry from the highlighted box and return to vegetable merchants for your well-deserved reward.
A Ship Came Sailing
- Given by: Davos.
- Reward: experience points, gauntlets and money.
During the quest The Big Break, you find yourself in Kleptos bay. The quest is located on the southeast side of this location. Talk to a man named Davos who is located on the mountainside – his brother Orneos was kidnapped by bandits and is now being held captive. You should rescue the poor guy.
- Note: You can find three optional treasures of this area in the courtyard on the lower tier of the camp.
A ladder is located near the start of this mission. Go down and draw attention of at least a couple of bandits (in all likelihood, one of them will be the local commander) to take them away from the camp and finish them off when they start returning to their usual outposts.
Move towards the site of Orneos’ imprisonment and quietly kill the patrolmen along the way (another commander of bandits will be among them) – this will help to simplify the walkthrough of the storyline mission The Big Break. To avoid being detected by the enemies, use sudden attacks and natural shelters like bushes and tall grass.
If you have properly cleared the area before the release of Orneos, you’ll have nothing to fear on the way back.
A second treasure chest is located next to the cage where Orneos is being held. Take its contents, release the prisoner and run after him closely. Forgetting about the feeling of self-preservation, Davos’ brother will rush through the bandit camp. If he is detected, you’ll have to fight.
Having returned with your companion to the start of the quest, talk to Davos to get the well-deserved gratitude and reward.
