Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: A Debt to Pay
Together with Markos, the main character of the Odyssey must figure out how to collect money for Cyclops and, if possible, deal with this bandit
After a round of debt collection, Alexios/Kassandra still needs to find a way to pay off Cyclops. The money is owed by the protagonist and also by his friend Markos, who was foolish enough to borrow a huge amount of cash from the bandit. Before you proceed with this task, find some time to complete a couple of side quests in order to make your further journey a bit easier.
An Eye for an Eye
Markos waits for Alexios/Kassandra at his vineyard. He has a brilliant solution to the monetary problem that the heroes have. The protagonist just needs to steal the obsidian eye, which Cyclops values so much (yes, that same Cyclops who keeps the entire island and the main characters at bay).
The relic is kept by Cyclops at his home in the west of Kephallonia. Markos will show you direction in which you should move (see screenshot above) and will advise you to wait for the night to come to get a tactical advantage – most guards sleep at night.
However, you won’t have to wander around the island waiting for the twilight – you can rewind time by holding down the button that is usually used to call a map. We do not choose easy ways, so we will walk through this mission under the scorching Greek sun.
Move in the direction showed by Markos until you are offered to call Icarus. Use the eagle to find the eye that is hidden in the house and mark all the guards and treasures in the area – this is useful for stealth penetration into Cyclop’s lair. The main entrance is for guests only, so climb the rocks to the right of the main path.
Sneak up from behind to the patrolman and perform a surprise attack, then repeat the procedure with the guard near the house (see screenshot above). If you wish, you can first clear the south-western part of the lair, but those enemies are so far from the main garrison that it makes no sense to spend your time on them.
The courtyard’s house is full of guards, so it’s too early to go there. Instead, sneak behind the building to the wooden shed – if you were fast enough, an absent-minded guard will be taking a rest there. Sneak up behind him and eliminate the enemy, then hide the corpse somewhere far away from the place of the accident.
Bushes and grass are growing around the house – a real treasure for stealth adepts. Move from one grassy shelter to the other, luring guards with your whistles. For some reason, almost the entire Cyclops garrison can’t wait to go around the building in circles, which greatly facilitates your task.
From time to time, soldiers will come to a tree on the edge of a cliff to relieve themselves. If no one is around at this moment, you’ll have a chance to teach them a valuable lesson in work ethic. You may no longer wait for the remaining patrolmen in the bush – just sneak up from the back and perform a surprise attack.
- Note: A civilian and a tiger in a cage are located in the courtyard, but both do not pose any threat.
When enemies stop coming to the slaughter, sneak into the house through the doorway that is located on the side of the cliff. Inside, you’ll find a chest with an optional treasure of this location and an access to the courtyard of the building. If you thoroughly eliminated patrolmen, no one will be able to block the way to the obsidian eye for Alexios/Kassandra.
Having picked up the stone, return to Markos using the same way you came in. The protagonist will keep the eye for himself but will be unable to immediately sell it – the merchants know who owns such a valuable relic and will not buy it from the hero.
Anyway, you’ll earn your 1500+ experience points.
The previous mission will immediately be followed by a new one – while saying goodbye to Alexios/Kassandra after getting the obsidian eye, Markos will notice the boat that is moored to the east coast of the island. According to the winemaker, wealthy strangers that could be Cyclops’ henchmen were in this boat.
You should search for the fancy guests in an abandoned house east of Sami. Having reached the site, call Icarus to mark the target and the enemies with the loot. This mission is better conducted at night as in this case some enemies – and all of them are soldiers that are armed with swords – will sleep.
Your task is to kill all opponents in the specified location. It is easier to do in the stealth regime, but do not worry even if the situation gets out of control: detection won’t lead to desynchronization. The stealth tactics used here is standard: stick to the bushes and lure soldiers to your ambush.
At least one opponent will sleep inside the house – eliminate him to complete the mission and meet a mysterious man named Elpenor, who will give you the next quest. You will receive at least 1500 experience points for the completion of this mission.
Before you say goodbye, Elpenor will give a new quest to Alexios/Kassandra. You must steal Penelope’s (this is Odyssey’s wife) shroud from the bandits who have previously stolen it from Elpenor. The thugs are based on the island of Ithaca, which is not far from Kephallonia, in a fortress that once belonged to Ulysses himself.
When Elpenor leaves, the hero will stand on the shore with a view of Ithaca. You can swim to the island, but there is a faster way – use the unowned boat that is swinging on the waves in the nearby. Jump onboard and sail to Ithaca – sailing in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is no more difficult than riding a horse.
Once onshore, release Icarus and mark all enemies and treasures in the area. Besides standard chests with valuable things, this location contains an ostrakon and an ancient tablet. More on this later, for now, note that the shroud is carried by the captain of bandits who have captured Odyssey’s house.
To collect all optional items in the area without spending too much time, we advise you to move around the location counterclockwise. For example, the northern part of the area is not guarded by anyone, but it contains one of the treasure chests and an ancient tablet.
Use roofs for moving (if you can) and head to the leader of the bandits. If you are not lucky, a guard with a dog will sit on the second floor of the building in which the captain is located. Both may leave at some point, but in the extreme case, you will have to take matters into your own hands (see the screenshot above).
As the leader has a couple of bodyguards and you don’t want to get involved in an open fight – half the island will run to the noise – try to take your target away from others. It is highly likely that your sudden attack won’t be sufficient enough for an instant kill, but our plan takes this into account.
The captain may be lured out of the building right into the tall grass. This grass will allow Alexios/Kassandra to deliver a treacherous blow that will deprive the enemy of a lion’s share of his health. You will have to knock out the remaining health by yourself. The faster you do this, the lower the probability that the hero will be detected.
Take the shroud from the body of the fallen captain of bandits. On the way back to the boat, grab the ostracon from the tent opposite the building where you found the captain. The tent is not guarded by anyone, but the remaining patrolmen may be around, so stay alert.
A bit closer to the shore, you’ll see a building that the thugs use as their barracks. If you went on a mission at night, a bandit will sleep next to a large chest on the second floor of this building. Kill him, take the loot and pay attention to the side task icon in the nearby – better deal with it now.
After you have done everything you need on Ithaca, return to Kephallonia. Upon arrival, go to the temple of Zeus where Elpenor is awaiting the hero with a reward for his efforts – at least 1500 experience points, a bag of gold and the very same shroud of Penelope, which actually looks like an assassin hood.
Before you proceed to the next storyline mission – it is recommended that you reach the fifth level of your character development – we advise you to prepare properly and deal with any remaining quests in Kephallonia.
The Big Break
The new task given by Elpenor is a murder of the famous Spartan commander nicknamed Wolf. You will not be able to refuse the offer, which means that Alexios/Kassandra will have to sail away from Kephallonia, an action that requires a ship.
Obviously, you do not have a ship, but you can lie about this to Elpenor – there’s no use in this lie because you will still have to find a ship. Ask the customer for more details about the reasons and details of the transaction, and then go searching for the ship.
The first stop is the docks in Sami. There, a new vessel is under construction. Talk to the shipowner named Telemenis – he is ready to provide a vessel for not less than a hundred thousand drachmas. Alexios/Kassandra does not have that much money, so he has to offer to exchange the ship for the obsidian eye.
The deal will fail, but Telemenis will warn the hero that Cyclops has returned to Kephallonia and is searching for his two main debtors – Markos and Alexios/Kassandra. The protagonist will find the adventure himself – the bandit’s ship was seen in Kleptos bay.
The hero wants to solve his problem with the ship by force, taking it away from the most dangerous criminal in Kephallonia. Move to the area of the island called Pronnoi Peninsula and unlock the synchronization point there – it is always good to improve Icarus’ observation abilities.
Cyclops is in the Kleptos bay, which is a standard gangster’s nest with three treasures, two captains and one prisoner. To initiate a fight with the boss, you need to approach him at a certain distance, but we do not recommend doing this ahead of time.
First, we advise you to properly weaken the guards of the thug’s lair. For this, go to the side task icon in the east and take the quest A Ship Came Sailing, which will allow you to clear the far side of the camp and collect a couple of treasures along the way, as well as eliminate one of the bandits’ leaders.
We talked about the quest A Ship Came Sailing in a separate article, and now we proceed to the main dish. Having cleared the bay of most of your enemies, move in the direction of the quest indicator to start a cutscene with the main character, Cyclops and a goat.
No one will be able to enter the area during the battle with Cyclops. However, once the battle is finished, almost half the garrison of the camp can be attracted by the noise – that’s why we advised to first clean at least part of the location and then proceed with the main fight.
First, deal with the two assistants of the boss. If you skip this part, they will distract you from the main enemy and shoot arrows from afar. After you have dealt with them, focus your efforts on dodging and parrying Cyclops’ attacks. He is a slow enemy, but his blow is mighty so it’s a good idea to avoid his attacks.
- Note: If you do not kill Talos before this mission, the mercenary will appear right during the battle with Cyclops.
Do not forget that you are unable to block the enemy attacks that are marked by red color, so, once you see it, jump away. To facilitate the fight, you can try to liberate the prisoner of Cyclops who stands on his knees in the center of the arena. He will become your ally in the battle.
When the boss is dead, search his body for valuables and follow Barnabas, the man you saved from Cyclops. On the way to freedom, pick up the last treasure in the building on the left and free the woman from the cage. If you followed our advice, this will mark the examination of this location.
Talk to Barnabas – he is the captain of the ship Adrestia. In gratitude for your help, he will offer you his ship. It makes no sense to refuse this offer, so go along with your new first mate to the docks of Sami, where old friends are already waiting for you.
First, Phoibe will come and ask you to let her onboard. You can’t take the girl with you so just say goodbye to her. The options that you choose in the dialogue will not have any effect on the story. After this, Markos will come to say goodbye. Hug him or shake hands and then get onboard the Adrestia.
If you have uncompleted quests in Kephallonia, you can delay the departure of the ship, but in all other cases just board it immediately. Onboard, Barnabas will reveal the true identity of the Spartan Wolf to Alexios/Kassandra. As a result, the hero will once again be haunted by the difficult childhood memories.
Having woken up from the flashback, the hero will understand the situation he got himself into. At this point, you will complete this mission and get about 2000 experience points. New waves and shores lie ahead.
