Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris

Detailed walkthrough of side quests in the second region visited by the main character of ancient Greek Odyssey by Ubisoft

In this article, we will analyze the side quests that can be found on the territory of Megaris in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Quests are listed in order of decreasing importance for the main storyline.

One Man Army

  • Given by: Stentor
  • Reward: experience points

Despite the fact that it’s a side quest, you should complete it if you want to facilitate the process of conquering Megaris for the Spartan army. This quest is so important because killing fighters of the dominant nation is one of the main ways of destabilizing the situation in the selected region.

Chances are that you will complete this quest without paying much attention to it. All that you must do is kill 20 Athenian soldiers (captains and polemarches have the most influence on the stability of the region). They can be found in numerous camps and fortresses of Megaris.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-1
Bird’s eye view of Fort Geraneia

Start your crusade against Athenians by dealing with Fort Geraneia. This is a big fort on the northern slope of Mount Geraneia, west of the captured Tripodiskos, where you will also have to complete two additional orders from Stentor.

Due to the abundance of enemies in this location, we recommend approaching the neutralization of enemy forces with caution. Do not be overly aggressive – half the fort will rush to the noise.

Decide for yourself how you want to start the stealth storming of the fort, but we advise you to start with eliminating a captain and a polemarch. They are the most dangerous enemies in the fort and you certainly don’t want to see any of them helping their colleagues in a fight.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-2

The captain guards the entrance to the fort. Theoretically, he can be lured out of the fort, but even if your sudden attack does not kill this elite enemy with one blow, no one should hear the noise of the battle unless you come too close to other guards.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-3

The polemarch is chilling out in the balcony on the north side of the region. It will be a bit harder to deal with him. First, he is located closer to his subordinates than the captain, so it is a good idea to clear the zone of the upcoming battle from Athenian soldiers.

Second, polemarch is much stronger and has more endurance compared to other guards, so the battle with him requires plenty of time. In this light, do not forget to buy the ability Second Wind, which restores at least 35% of maximum health when used.

Try to strike first by sneaking up from behind or use your bow to make a powerful shot – the skill Devastating Shot together with some exotic arrow will come in handy. After this, dodge and parry, parry, parry… (just press the appropriate button if you are not sure of timing).

Other guards won’t bring significant problems: use natural shelters (grass, bushes), whistle and use stealth abilities, like Shadow Assassin and Rush Assassination. The first one increases damage from stealth hits while the second one allows to chain them.

When there are no enemies in Fort Geraneia, complete the next two quests given by Stentor and then proceed to the next area populated by Athenian soldiers. For killing a sufficient number of fighters, you will get about 2000 experience points.

The Athenian Treasure Trove

  • Given by: Stentor
  • Reward: experience points, money

Despite the fact that this is a side quest, you need to complete it to facilitate the process of conquering Megaris for the Spartan army and yourself. By robbing the local treasury, you’ll be able to destabilize the situation in the selected region.

The treasure in any part of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey world is a chest that you just need to open. This is done by going to the box and pressing the interaction button. As soon as you get the money and valuable items, the quest is completed.

Your target is in the location Fort Geraneia. Strangely enough, no one guards the building with a government chest inside – if anyone is still in the area after you have cleared the location.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-4

The easiest way to get to the target is by going to the south side of the fortress where there are practically no soldiers. To avoid getting into the building from the main entrance, use the hole in the wall from the back side. Once inside, go to the chest and open it to complete the quest and get the reward.

Crumble and Burn

  • Given by: Stentor
  • Reward: experience points

Despite the fact that this is a side quest, you must complete it to facilitate the process of conquering Megaris for the Spartan army and yourself. Destroying supplies is one of the main ways of destabilizing the situation in the selected region.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-5

If you have already cleared Fort Geraneia in the previous side quests, this mission won’t present any problems. The hero needs to burn down four boxes with supplies – they look as shown in the screenshot above and are marked with a purple icon on the map.

To destroy supplies, use fire – get a torch from your pocket and hit the boxes or throw the torch from afar. The alternative option is to use fire arrows or barrels of oil if you want to destroy supplies from a safe distance.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-6

Inspect the boxes before destroying them. Often, you’ll be able to find sufficient volumes of various resources for crafting and improving equipment that you will not obtain if you burn them. Destroy four piles of supplies in any suitable location, and the task will be completed.

The Missing Map

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-7

  • Given by: Spartan hoplite
  • Reward: experience points

A Spartan camp is located to the east of the Megaris port. In one of the tents, a hoplite has a conflict with a subordinate regarding a tablet. Talk to the character to find out what happened – someone (perhaps, a traitor) has stolen important information.

The hoplite believes that a Spartan traitor is to blame and asks Alexios/Kassandra to torture the bastard before he dies. The traitor left the camp wounded, so he could not go far – move towards the hill in the south-west until you receive a notice of Icarus availability.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-8

Inspect the location with the help of the eagle – the alleged traitor is tied up on the ground, two bandits and a dog are near him. Use your bow to kill the dog from afar – animals in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey generally cause many problems – and eliminate the two thugs in melee combat or stealthily.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-9

Having freed the prisoner, ask him about his crime. It turns out that he is not a Spartan, but an Athenian soldier who was recruited by a mercenary named Hyrkanos (you’ll hear more about this person later in the game). Now you need to decide what to do with the Athenian soldier:

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-10

  1. Bribe – you get the tablet and some drachmas, the soldier leaves.
  2. Free – the soldier leaves, you have the tablet but not the money.
  3. Kill – you eliminate the soldier and take the tablet by force.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-11

Regardless of the decision that you have made, go back to the hoplite and tell him what you have learned: there are no traitors among Spartans, Hyrkanos is responsible for the theft and he presumably fights on the Athenian side. However, it’s too early to think about it.

Portion Control

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-12

  • Given by: Dolio
  • Reward: experience points, Athenian helmet

Once of Stentor’s scouts named Dolios stands on the side of the road in the central part of the captured Tripodiskos forest. Talk to him – someone looted supplies and killed all guards. Being a free agent in the war between Athens and Sparta, Alexios/Kassandra offers his help.

Inspect the crime scene. You are interested in three clues: the corpses of soldiers near Dolios, a broken wagon and emerald-colored crystals on the nearby stones. Having analyzed the data, the hero comes to conclusion that robbers have gone towards the forest – similar minerals are collected in nearby caves.

Move south from the crime scene until you are asked to call Icarus. Find thieves with the help of the eagle and run towards the quest indicator. Those who have stolen supplies will hide in the cave – they are ordinary peasants. You can kill them without clarifying the circumstances or you can give them a chance to explain themselves.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-18

If you are patient, we recommend listening to people. They will tell that mercenary Hyrcanus has arranged everything and told them to come and get the supplies – the soldiers have been dead by the time the peasants arrived at the scene. In addition, the stolen food originally belonged to peasants as it was their harvest that was taken by Spartans.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-19

Having learned the details of the conflict, Alexios/Kassandra is able to make an informed decision: kill the peasants for the crime committed or take away some of the food but leave people alive. No matter what you do in this situation, your choice will have consequences in the future.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-20

Having dealt with the peasants, return to Dolios and tell him what you have learned – peasants, harvest, Hyrkanos. The scout will justify the confiscation of food by army needs and will immediately offer an additional task to the hero.

Hunting Hyrkanos

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-21

  • Given by: Dolios
  • Reward: experience points

Following the completion of the side quest Portion Control, the scout Dolios will give you a quest to kill the mercenary named Hyrkanos, who participated in two crimes against the Spartan army. Having received the task, you can track down the target at the mercenaries’ menu.

Just like any other bounty hunter in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Hyrkanos the Cunning has his strengths and weaknesses: Shell Skin ability provides the mercenary with additional protection from arrows. At the same time, Hyrkanos is afraid of fire, so attacks of this type will be most effective against him.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-22

In all likelihood, by the time the quest begins Hyrkanos will be in the Megaris temple. The building is guarded by several Athenian soldiers, so we advise you to kill the guards before engaging in a battle with the mercenary. If you go on the offensive at night, some of the guards will be sleeping.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-23

It’s a good idea to start the fight with a surprise attack – sneak up to Hyrkanos from the back or jump from above. Bows are not as effective as usual against this enemy. However, together with the Devastating Shot ability and the fire arrow, the bow can deal plenty of damage.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-24
Dodging incoming missiles is not as difficult as hitting the boss

The most effective skills in an open fight are Flaming Attack, which covers your blades with a flammable liquid, and Spartan Kick, whose benefit is clearly shown in the animation above.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-25

Don’t forget to block enemy strikes and dodge those painted in red – you can’t interrupt their execution. The Second Wind skill will also come in handy as it restores at least 35% of your maximum health during the battle.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-26

Having defeated Hyrkanos, take his belongings – money, resources and a rare dagger – and return to Dolios to get your reward.

A Family Ordeal

Given by: Odessa.

Reward: experience points, belt.

In the northeast of Megaris, you’ll find a small estate. If you have completed the side quest A Small Odyssey, Odessa will wait you there. Her father has health problems, and you need to get healing herbs and a special medicine that a merchant has reserved for the heiress of the great Odyssey.

Move to the southwest until you are notified that you can call Icarus. Use the eagle to find the necessary plants – they bloom next to the broken Persian trireme near the port of Nisaia in the east of Megaris. Go to three quest indicators and collect the herbs.

Next, go to the merchant. He won’t give you anything for free, so you will either have to pay (the drugs cost only 50 drachmas) or go to extremes – lies or violence. In the latter case, you will have to kill the merchant.

Bring the medicine back to Odessa. While you were searching for the medicine and the herbs, the estate was attacked by three unknowns. Having defeated them, search their bodies to find a note with instructions from no less than the ruler of Megaris.

Go back to Odessa and tell her what you managed to find out. Odyssey’s heiress won’t reveal the whole truth about why she is being hunted during this quest, but she will do it in the course of the next one.

The True Story

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-34

  • Given by: Odessa
  • Reward: experience points, Odessa’s bow

After completing the side quest A Family Ordeal, return to Odessa for the information about the true cause of her problems. Don’t try a love line in the conversation with the girl – she has more important things on the agenda.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-35

Clues pointing to the involvement of Megaris’ ruler may be found at his home – go to Megara and use Icarus to investigate the situation. The items that can be inspected are located in two rooms on the second floor of the building. There’s a bridge between these rooms.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-36

Kill the only guard in the nearby from the back or from above – make no noise – and start investigating the case. If you wish, you can clear the whole house of enemies, but it is not required at this stage – no one will enter the rooms with evidence.

You are interested in four documents:

  1. The letter on the desktop says that Odessa’s estate must be captured by any means.
  2. The scroll on the coffee table indicates that Odessa’s lover died soon after they met.
  3. A manuscript in the bathroom indicates that Odessa hired a mercenary to protect herself.
  4. A document located on the chair in the bathroom indicates that Megaris’ ruler tried to arrange Odessa’s marriage.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-41

Return to Odessa once you have obtained the information. If you have paid enough attention to the girl before, you can try to drag her to bed. However, this can be done a little later (but only once for one dialogue), so for now, focus on business.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-42

Having laid out all the data about attempts of Megaris’ leader to take away the estate from Odessa, you can decide who the Odyssey’s heiress is in this story – a victim or a pretender. If the protagonist has already slept with the heroine, you can say what you want. Otherwise, be careful with your words.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-43

In the end, Alexios/Kassandra will be given the last chance to sleep with Odessa. The success of this love venture depends on the decision that you have made regarding the girl’s involvement in the case. If you have accused Odessa, you’ll have no chance for romance.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Side Quests Walkthrough: Megaris-44

Regardless of whether Odessa was a romantic interest for you or not, you’ll be able to make her a lieutenant on your ship. To assign her, you will need to buy an improvement for Adrestia hull in the special menu.

To be continued…
