Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes

The protagonist of Odyssey decides to get into the secret room under the Oracle’s quarters in Delphi, but he needs to find Elpenor first

Pythia told the main hero of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that Kosmos Cult members have a secret meeting room under the temple of Apollo. To get there, you need to get the corporate “uniform” of the sect – a cloak and a special mask. Elpenor has both items of the wardrobe, and you now know his location.

Snake in the Grass

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-1

According to the Oracle of Delphi, Elpenor makes his business in Pharsolos Fort, which is located in the north-west of Phokis in the Valley of the Nymph. Go there and use Icarus to evaluate the situation – the fort is big, but your target stands at a visible and open place. We won’t complain but we note the strangeness of his location.

There are several ways to get into the fort – for example, you can get there through the cave to the east of the location – but the easiest and fastest way involves climbing the fort’s walls. First, let’s get rid of Elpenor – a Devastating Shot in the head (using some exotic arrow) should do the job.

To advance further in the storyline, you need to search the corpse of your former employer, but it is highly likely that guards are close to the body. Thus, we advise to start by reducing the number of the local garrison members – you’ll get some experience points and gather crafting materials.

We will move counterclockwise along the outer wall, starting from the warehouse on the eastern side of the fort. Enemy patrols pass through this room – sit near the doorway and attack when the enemy comes close enough.

If the assassin damage dealt by Alexios/Kassandra won’t be sufficient enough to instantly neutralize the opponent, don’t worry: this room is far away from other guards who will not hear the noise.

Shoot in the head to deal with the guards on towers (the Devastating Shot skill will come in handy). Charged Heavy Attack is useful for dealing with strong opponents like local captains.

A polemarch – the leader of the fort’s commanders - is located in the western side of the fort. You can’t kill him with the first blow, so you’ll have to enter an open fight. Fortunately, the arena of the battle is far enough from other patrolmen positions, so you won’t have to worry about noise.

By the time you deal with the polemarch, some guards will likely notice the corpses of their former comrades and start searching for the killer. Don’t get detected or, if caught, deal with the enemy fast.

You can also sneak up behind your target

Next, deal stealthily with everyone whom you meet on your way to Elpenor’s body – it is likely that you will meet no one since the hero has already eliminated most of the garrison – and approach the corpse. Surprise: this ‘’Elpenor’’ is a double. The real one is hiding in the cave near the Snake Temple.

Clear the fortress from the remaining guards so that you can freely perform side tasks in the location – do not forget that you can take some supplies with you before burning them – and move towards your new target which is located in the western part of the Snake Valley.

  • Be careful: an early visit to the Snake Temple (before you talk to Pythia and go through the chapter Of Visions and Visionaries) may cause the interruption of the sequence of storyline events after the murder of Elpenor. In this case, you will not be able to complete the game and you will have to load one of your saves. Ubisoft is already working on the solution to this problem.

If you have already explored Phokis, move to the previously synchronized view point Satyr’s Respite. Having appeared on a tree bench, call Ikaros and find Elpenor – he is hiding in a cave. The entry to the cave is guarded by two cultists with impressive shields.

If the second level of Shield Breaker is not available to you, then you will have to struggle with the guard at the entrance to the cave

Approaching Elpenor’s lair from the view point side, you can get close to the entrance without going through the Snake temple. Jump on one of the guards for an instant kill, and manually kill the second one – nobody will hear the noise of the battle at this height.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-9

Elpenor is waiting for Alexios/Kassandra inside the cave. You should not expect to talk to him (at least for now) so you will need to fight. As in any case with a mercenary of about your level, the battle can take several minutes – the opponent has plenty of health points.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-10

Keep in mind that the main hero dies from literally a few hits, so we strongly recommend taking the Second Wind skill for this battle. Also, you’ll benefit from a skill that increases damage in open combat and Flaming Attacks/Venomous Attacks – the fire/poison will deal periodic damage to the enemy.

Try parrying Elpenor’s blows as often as you can to make him vulnerable to your attacks. In case you are afraid to make a mistake with timing, start pressing the necessary button when you see that the enemy is preparing for his attack. A successful block also fills the adrenaline scale which can be spent on using your skills.

If you don’t want to parry, dodge – a successful dodge will slow down the time around the hero which will allow you to counterattack. Do not forget that attacks painted in red cannot be stopped.

In the course of the battle, Elpenor will share the plans of Kosmos Cult. It looks like the sect is hunting for the protagonist’s mother and uses a man or a woman nicknamed Deimos to achieve this goal. You will soon know who hides behind this name.

After his death, Elpenor will bring you about 5000 experience points, a mysterious-looking triangular crystal and ceremonial clothes of the cultists – you can use them to get to the sect’s meeting. Before you go out of the cave, take the legendary Scaled Torso and search the decorated chest that stands by the wall.

One or even two cultists will stand at the exit from Elpenor’s lair. In the first case, just use the sudden attack, in the second case Rush Assassination will do the job (you will have to purchase it). If you wish, you can kill all cultists in the Snake Temple, but the quest does not require this for completion.

The Serpent’s Lair

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-14

Having obtained a sectarian outfit, return to Delphi and find Herodotus – the historian will wait for you near the temple of Apollo, near the door to the secret hall of Kosmos Cult. It is decorated by two columns entwined with stone serpents: it seems that cultists do not know how to hide (or do not want to hide).

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-15

Having arrived at the site, Alexios/Kassandra will change into the ceremonial outfit of cultists. You can leave your belongings to Herodotus – you won’t have to kill anyone inside. Your task is to collect data about the mysterious organization and to avoid getting discovered by the cultists.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-16

Having descended to the meetings hall, the hero will face a sectarian girl who can be questioned about Deimos and other people around. According to her, Deimos is a weapon that is used by Kosmos Cult to achieve its goals. You’ll later find out what kind of a weapon Deimos is.

You do not have the time to think about what this means, so proceed to the inspection of the hall. The first stop is the sectarian near the pedestal at the far end of the room. The man is making a bloody offering to the pedestal and then offers a knife to you. You can refuse but this will not impact the outcome of the scene – the cultist will talk anyway.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-19

It seems that everyone in the Cult dreams of eliminating Deimos’ family, but he/she is not allowed to know it. In the nearby, two sectarians argue about who must be the next target of the operation – Deimos’ mother or Deimos’ father (the real one). You’ll be offered to resolve the conflict, but neither option will satisfy both sectarians.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-20

A passage to a small cave is located behind the two arguing sectarians. There, one cultist lectures another one: he showed cowardice when he needed to kill the target, and now he receives a lesson from the ‘’boss’’. Hesitation is punished by roasting, and you’ll be offered an ‘’honor’’ to leave a mark on the body of the guilty cultist.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-21

You do not have to cripple the coward: if you decline the offer, the ‘’boss’’ will change his mind regarding the punishment. In two other cases, the unfortunate cultist will receive a serious hand burn. This scene won’t have any effect on further events so choose any option that you like.

Regardless of your decision, you’ll learn that the Cult is hunting for Phidias – an ancient Greek sculptor and architect. Next to a locked door, you can overhear the conversation between two cultists – one threatens to kill close relatives of the other one.

On the opposite side of the punishment scene, behind the waterfall, you can find a whole bunch of cultist letters that will later be of use to you. Next, return to the hall and insert the triangular crystal that you have found on Elpenor’s body into the artifact in the center of the room.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-24

A female cultist will approach you and tell about the attractiveness of the glowing pyramid on the pedestal – the hero has already had the same feeling. However, Alexios/Kassandra won’t be allowed to touch it – Deimos will rush into the hall with Elpenor’s head in the hand and will declare a hunt for the traitor.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-25

The cultists plan to use the pyramid to find the impostor. Everyone who is present at the scene must touch the pyramid, and then Deimos announces whether the sectarian passed the test or not. When your turn comes, touching the artifact provokes a burst of memories.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-26

Thanks to the mysterious ritual, the long-separated brother and sister will finally recognize each other. If you play for Alexios, Deimos will be Kassandra and vice versa (see screenshots above). Deimos will not kill his/her brother/sister, so the unfortunate fate awaits a random cultist.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-27

While Deimos is breaking the skull of the poor sectarian, you can slip away unnoticed and return to Herodotus. The historian will advise you to warn Perikles – the ruler of Athens – but first, the heroes must stop at Thermopylae.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Full Walkthrough: Beware the Snakes-28

At the end of the conversation, you will get about 5000 experience points and access to new game mechanics. From now on, you’ll be able to search and kill specific cultists. Initially, their faces are hidden, but clues scattered around the world (for example, the letters that you have found in the secret hall) will help you reveal their identities, track them down and kill.

However, no one demands that you concentrate your efforts on chasing the members of the ominous organization right now – the rank of many cultists significantly exceeds your own rank, while the protagonist has more pressing issues.
