Where to Find Modwyr, the Talking Sword, in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

Learn about the location of the talking sword Modwyr and how to complete the quest connected with it

During your journey around the Deadfire Archipelago, you can find a true talking sword Modwyr (one of the side quests is related to this sword).

Where to Find Modwyr, the Talking Sword, in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire-1

To find the sword, go to the Gullet in Neketaka. In the upper right corner of the location you’ll find an elevator that takes you to the Old City. Overseer Hitenga is just below. If you succeed in persuading her, she’ll let you use the elevator.

If you can’t persuade her, go through the Delver’s Row and the Crypt. Crypt is defended by Principi but they will let you through if you agree to meet Morena.

You need to visit the location «Old City Ruins». Thus, when you have descended the elevator, go to the left to find the necessary passage. The lift’s location is not what you need as it has a different name.

In the upper right corner of the location, there’s a region with an old shelter. You’ll see a corresponding marker on the map. Inspect the skeleton, interact with it and launch a cut-scene. This is how you find Modwyr, the talking sword. Choose any variants of the dialogue as you’ll be able to take the weapon anyway.

Modwyr’s characteristics can be seen on the screenshot below:

Only the main hero can use Modwyr. It has to be assigned to one of the classes if your Keeper is a multi-class character. Modwyr’s characteristics will improve throughout the game.

As soon as you pick up the weapon, interact with it in the inventory. Link it to your character and then open the characteristics window where you’ll see the first quest that must be completed. You’ll have to do three things:

  1. Kill an intelligent race representative.
  2. Deal 1500 sword damage to intelligent race representatives.
  3. Kill 25 intelligent race representatives.

If you want to find the owner of the sword, you’ll be able to do it only after the full linkage. The woman that you need is on the island Denaje.
